Voting & Civil Rights

Were your voting rights violated?

Did a poll worker demand your ID?

In Massachusetts, voters do not need to present an ID in order to vote.

You have the option to offer your ID, if you choose to do so, but this is optional. If a poll worker demands your ID and you choose not to present it, you can demand an provisional ballot at the poll.

Were you able to vote in your own language?

Under federal law, if a town or city has over 10,000 residents speaking a non-English language — or more than 5% of voters — election materials and ballots must be translated into that language.

Multilingual ballots are provided in the following places (source)

  • Chinese: Boston, Malden, Quincy

  • Vietnamese: Boston, Randolph

  • Khmer: Lowell

Vote by Mail Applications are available in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Khmer.
